House of Ruth’s history reaches back to 1967 when Fred Schemmel established a jewellery manufacturing operation in Prahran. This business, F and S Schemmel, focused on casting and presswork as well as hand-made and machine-made jewellery.

1969 saw F and S Schemmel rebranded as House of Ruth Pty Ltd. A substantial investment in state of the art plant and equipment followed, enabling the company to expand its product range. The business grew rapidly and it became necessary to relocate the operation to larger premises. In 1975 a new facility was purchased in Izett Street, Prahran.
